The main attraction of this Thai restaurant is that it is cheap. The food is decent but many dishes are too oily or too salty or just too soggy or messy. The sweet and sour soup, which I use as a benchmark is only average. The noodle dish we tried did not balance quantities of noodles with veg/meats. Restaurant has cheap, unromantic vinyl appeal. Parking on Vermont street. But it's cheap!

Wild Thai is a nice cozy place near the Bridge Cinemas next to the 405 Freeway. They have a variety of dishes from all corners of Thailand, ranging from seafood to all kinds of meats. The portions are not huge but they are cheap, and you can share most of the plates. The environment is decent and the service pretty good. Nothing exceptional, but it is a rational choice if you are around.

New location looks very good. They still have the Thai Elvis who croons through many a song as you eat the delicious food here. The restaurant is very busy and you may have to wait. Wonton wrappers are tasty, coconut soup is mild and is more sour than spicy. I do not recommend the beef with vegetables - the beef is dry and tasteless. The Penang Chicken curry is not that spicy and quite good when doused into the rice. The fish with mango sauce is pretty decent also. Order a round of Thai coffees and you're set! Parking is valet and is $2.75.

Excellent Thai food in a new, clean restaurant in the heart of Thai town. The crispy duck with Penang curry is wonderful. Fried wontons, satay chicken. The spicy rice is really spicy! Valet parking is silly. Pick up traditional Thai snacks from the adjoining shop in the plaza.

Shady looking place... we didn't eat there -> takeout. Pretty decent Thai food. Red Chicken Curry was good as was the Golden Stick and the fried wontons. They will deliver to USC.

Joy Mart + + +

Delicious sashimi and sushi are served in this very nice-looking restaurant located at the heart of the Japanese Village. Ingredients are fresh and well presented. The noodle dishes may look small in the menu but they are huge! The ramen is virtually unfinishable. I had the Pad Thai here and it is very good, as was the Hot Asian Sushi Roll. Prices are moderate and can add up quickly.

Located at Silverlake and Effie, this family-owned restaurant is truly in the middle of nowhere. The atmosphere is extremely cosy (think no bigger than your living room) and the dishes are prepared in that same "homemade" spirit. Large selection of decent Thai food at a very cheap price. Cash only! Thumbs up.
